Who We Are

The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana (CIUG) was established in 2013 as a historic partnership between the University of Ghana and Zhejiang University of Technology, China. We proudly hold the distinction of being Ghana's first Confucius Institute and were honored with the prestigious "Global Model Confucius Institute" title in 2015.

As a cultural bridge between Ghana and China, we are committed to promoting Chinese language teaching, facilitating cultural exchanges, and fostering mutual understanding between our two great nations through innovative educational programs.

Key moments in our development and growth since 2013

2013

Establishment & Inauguration

CIUG officially established through partnership between University of Ghana and Zhejiang University of Technology. Held inaugural ceremony with Ghanaian and Chinese dignitaries.

2014

First HSK Test Center

Became the first HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) center in Ghana, administering tests to 500+ candidates in the first year.

March 2014
2015

Global Model Institute Award

Awarded prestigious "Global Model Confucius Institute" title for excellence in Chinese language education and cultural exchange.

December 2015
2018

Expansion to 25 Teaching Points

Expanded to 25 teaching points across Ghana including universities, schools, government institutions, and corporate partners.

August 2018
2021

Digital Transformation Initiative

Launched comprehensive online learning platform and virtual cultural programs during COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 10,000+ students online.

January 2021
2023

10th Anniversary Celebration

Celebrated 10 years of promoting Chinese language and culture in Ghana, reaching 50,000+ learners and launching new scholarship programs.
